What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is more commonly known as excessive sweating and effects approximately 1-2% of the entire population. Sufferers tend to sweat a lot more than the average person, either just in certain areas or all over the body to include the axilla (underarms), hands, feet and forehead. There is no one cause of hyperhidrosis, but it can be linked to other medical conditions or certain medications and in some circumstances it can simply happen for no specific reason at all. While there are steps that you can take to minimise or manage this condition, sadly not all of them work and the majority are not long lasting. However, botulinum toxin has been used most effectively in the medical management of excessive sweating.
How does hyperhidrosis treatment work?
By injecting a highly precise amount of botulinum toxin into the affected area, it blocks nerve transmissions and the function of the sweat glands are minimised.
How long do results last?
After 4 weeks you will notice a considerable reduction in sweating, in some circumstances sweating in the treated area will cease altogether with results lasting 5-7 months
Are there any side effects?
Immediately after treatment the treated area can appear slightly red and occasionally there is some mild bruising and tenderness. This Is all completely normal and generally reduces within a few days. No recovery time is required, and you can return to your daily activities immediately. You will be fully consulted prior to any treatment to discuss the side effects in detail.
