DERMAL FILLERS

What are Dermal Fillers?

At Adonia we use hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body. Hyaluronic acid attracts and binds water in the skin, providing volume and hydration. Immediately after injecting, the skin is lifted to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and folds. It is also used to enhance cheeks and lips.

Does it hurt?

At Adonia we only use dermal fillers that contain a local anaesthetic which will help to provide pain relief during the procedure. In addition we also apply a topical anaesthetic cream prior to treatment to numb the skin.

What areas can be treated?

Dermal fillers can be used to:

  • Correct or enhance facial contours e.g. cheeks and chin
  • Define, correct or enhance lips
  • To soften and correct facial wrinkles or folds
  • To restore lost volume in hands to reduce the appearance of veins and tendons
  • To correct hollows under the eyes (tear troughs)
  • To improve the tone, texture and hydration of the skin
Are there any side effects?

Serious side effects are very rare. Only temporary fillers are used thus making these products very safe. The hyaluronic acid in the filler is almost identifical to that already present in the body. It is possible to ‘dissolve’ the product if there is any serious problems. Immediately after, the treatment area can appear slightly red and swollen, occasionally there is some mild bruising. This is all completely normal and generally reduces within a few days. You will be fully consulted before any treatment to discuss the side effects in detail.

How long do results last?

In general Hyaluronic Acid dermal filler treatments last between six and nine months with some dermal fillers lasting up to 12-18 months. After this time the dermal filler effects will appear to weaken until your skin returns to it’s pre-treatment state.
